Likewise, I felt for Bryan, trying to stay afloat in a world that is changing, trying to hold on to both people he loves while dealing with so much. I can understand the "Hollywooding" of the ending but honesty, the book's bleak ending is closer to reality and is most likely how it really would have played out.Īlthough I felt for Mark, I do not excuse some of his actions. I saw it and the ending is completely different. This is such an easy book to relate to.įYI.this book was also a film. And growing up, I too felt this amazing free feeling, the feeling that it would always be this way. I am someone who is not all that comfortable with change. Things are always changing.who hasn't wanted, at one point or more, for things to just slow down.or freeze altogether? Mark however is not happy with this and wants things to remain just as they have always been. He is growing up and for the first time he has a girlfriend. Mark and Bryan have been best friends all their lives. While I still prefer The Outsiders, this is a great book as well. Hinton wrote both and I am a huge fan of both these books. This book is lesser known then "The Outsiders". I read this as a kid but lately certain things have made me think of it and perhaps I will do a reread. Darry is serious, he had to grow up fast since their parents died so he got in charge of paying the bills and taking care of his brothers so they can stay together and not be sent to foster homes since the book it's narrated by Ponyboy, it is frecuently giving you the sense that Darry is cold hearted and doesn't love him but in reality Darry is just doing the job of a parent (which mostly teenagers typically hate) and clerly loves Ponyboy but he isn't very emotional or expressive so it leaves to the (in a way) still childish mind of Ponyboy the conclussion that his older brother doesn't likes him.“You know what the crummiest feeling you can have is? To hate the person you love the best in the world.”

He knows how to treat people and beside this attributes, he is described to be very attractive and oftenly chased by girls (incluiding que square girls) he is the only one to understand Ponyboy (or so he thinks).
